Dutch: pakjaar
English: pack-year
A pack-year is an attempt to make it easier to interpret a person's smoking habits. One pack-year is equal to 20 cigarettes (one pack) a day for a whole year.
Suppose a person smokes 40 cigarettes (two packs) a day for 6 months and then stops, this person would still have smoked one whole pack-year.
